St. Jacobs Farmers' Market is a popular Ontario tourist destination. It’s known as the largest year-round farmer's market in Canada. I got to explore the Market one Thursday this summer and these are the pictures I took while doing so.

We arrived just in time for an early lunch and decided on getting a slice of pizza from Pizza Junction inside the main building. It was great! The crust was very light and fluffy and I loved the cheese and sauce. The ingredients were very fresh - I was told they are from local farmers.

After the pizza we walked around and checked out the stalls with produce from local farmers. Lots of places had samples of their fruit out so people could try. The grapes and the cantaloupe were my favourites. We ended up grabbing a few things and putting it in a cooler in the car so we could have free hands to go back and get some more.

The vendors were friendly. One woman stopped me and asked me to take a picture of her in front of the berries she was selling. We bought some more fruit and veggies then went in the main building again. The first floor has food vendors (including meats and cheeses) so we walked around a bit and headed upstairs. There were lots of little stores selling everything from medicine to handmade ornaments. It was a great vantage point from a couple of the balconies so I took a number of pictures from up there and included them below.

We checked out the peddler’s village which i a flea market with more food and lots of different unique items for sale. The Market tent (another building) had more of the same - a mix of food, craft and other goods for sale.

The market closed at 3pm. It’s open Thursdays and Sundays 7am - 3:30pm and during the summer months, Thursdays 8am - 3pm. I would definitely try and get there earlier next time. I’d love to take a horse drawn tour. It includes a visit to a Mennonite farm and some information on the culture.

All in all, it was a good afternoon. There was lots of history and character to be seen and plenty of good deals to be had. The day was still young so we drove north into town. I’ll be posting that blog soon.
